'It's a Newham Thing'

It's a Newham Thing is a project that has developed from 'Your Place or Mine' first conducted in Forest Gate. E7. The idea has now expanded into Canning Town, Stratford, West Ham and Plaistow where more members of the public will nominate their special, hidden and unusual places.
Funded by a Transformers grant and assisted by Newham NDP, the project will be taken into local schools. Please get in touch if you would like to participate.

Your Place or Mine

A web-based, audio-visual, social-engagement project in Forest Gate E7, by Rayna Nadeem

10 participants from Forest Gate are encouraged to look again and re-engage with their immediate environment, and describe their relationship with their own special places.
By exploring and re-examining what we usually take for granted, this project helps us gain a new appreciation of our own localities.

Dekko Productions presentented 'We Are East'. A screening of short films. Showcasing quirky documentaries, great drama and some tantalisingly experimental films with an East London flavour.

Shown as part of the Newham NDAF 'Watch' series. And also screened at Leytonstone Pop Up Cinema.

Our Time in Gaza....

One year after the Israeli military offensive Operation Cast Lead rained down bombs on the people of Gaza, we had the opportunity to go to Palestine to find out what affect this had on the children.

We worked with 7 young people in the northern town of Beit Hanoun, and facilitated the making of 3 short films about their lives in Gaza. Despite never having used a video camera before, every shot was filmed and directed by the children themselves

Rayna's Square Mile Project

Rayna completed her residency as the lead artist in Visiting Arts and Waltham Forest's Square Mile Project, a project that helped local communities creatively explore their environment through arts and ecology.

Rayna Nadeem's DEADLIFE was premiered at Stratford Picturehouse, east London, on Thursday May 14th to over 200 people.

DeadLife was also nominated for Best London Film at this years Portobello Film Festival 2009.
